Teaching Sermon Series

It might seem as though our faith is linear, journeying from one point to another. In reality, our faith is on a circular path, ebbing and flowing at different times and seasons. Sarah Bessey describes it this way in her book Miracles and Other Reasonable Things: “Just when I feel that I know who God is, God unbecomes that vision and remakes. Just when I am certain that I will always experience God in the same ways, a new path opens.”

This is one reason we use a Sunday lectionary, a collection of scripture readings, which repeats every three years. The scripture readings remain the same, but we are different.  During those three years we grow, shift, and adapt as persons and as a community of faith. We see, hear, and understand things differently.  In light of this, a handful of times each year one of our clergy will preach a teaching sermon offering instruction on the core tenants of our faith.  Here are the dates and topics.
