Dear People of Saints James and Andrew,
This week we wanted to offer a Special Edition of the Newsletter so we might keep everyone updated as things continue to shift as a result of COVID-19. This past week Governor Baker Ordered All Non Essential Organizations to Cease In-Person Operation. As a result of this order, and with the guidance of Bishop Doug and Greenfield Board of Health, we have made the following changes:
The Church is now closed to everyone through April 7. As a result of this necessary decision, the Mission Team brainstormed a new way to spark a bit of cheer and hope for our community using our lawn. We started a project we have named Scraps of Hope (read more about it and see pictures below). Also, the labyrinth will remain open.
Palm Sunday and Holy Week. Some of you have heard our hope to offer Palms to Go. Unfortunately, this is no longer a safe thing to offer. We still have palms that will arrive for Palm Sunday. We will use them in our online streamed worship, and will keep them in the church entry (Narthex) until mid-summer so folks can pick them up when we are allowed to reconvene in person worship. In next week’s newsletter, we will provide you with an updated list of Holy Week services (all of which will be streamed online).
Bread of Life and Cathedral in the Light are ecumenical programs which have been suspended by their organizers. As a result, we will be suspending our participation in those programs until further notice. The Mission Team did discuss the possibility of Cathedral in the Light serving the meal from our parking lot, and should they do so, we would resume supplying the meal once a month. We will let you know if anything changes.
2nd Helpings and Whitney's Pantry will continue to operate as 'to go' services.
Office Hours are now strictly virtual. Beau will work from home Mon-Fri from 9-12 through April 7. Phones are forwarded to his line, and then returned to the answering service. A counter is still coming in each week to deposit any checks that arrive in the mail.
Neighbor to Neighbor is a project sponsored by Greening Greenfield and Franklin Community Coop, working to fill a void created by COVID-19. They are helping deliver food and other essentials to folks in the community. Learn more about it here if you would like to help/ need help.
Please know how much we miss being together with you in person. We know the Church is not a building, but rather a people. Even as we are scattered physically apart, we will keep being the Church in virtual mode for as long as it takes. Know you are in our prayers. May the peace of God, which passes all understanding, keep our hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God.
Rev. Heather & Rev. Molly
How to worship online
The easiest way to find all the links is by visiting our website: www.saintsjamesandandrew.org
Online Streamed Worship at 10 a.m.
Join us for worship each Sunday on Facebook Live. (You do not need to have a Facebook account to view this public live stream). We will start the live feed at about 9:45 a.m. Our priests will lead the worship in person, along with a musician and our tech assistant. We ask all others to stay at home and watch from home.
During the communion liturgy we invite you to have a small piece of bread and/or wine. If we are worshiping together, even as our bodies are apart, God will still become really and truly present in the bread and wine we set apart in our own homes to consume during communion.
We realize household finances are shifting due to COVID-19. For those who are able, please consider mailing in the check you would ordinarily put in the offering plate. A Counter is coming in each week to deposit our checks. For those interested in giving electronically, please consider donating on our website through Tithe.ly. (If at all possible, it helps if you can cover the processing fee). Your ongoing pledge will allow us to continue our outreach and mission, paying our staff, and caring for our campus. Thank you in advance.
